Earlier this month Helmut Marko claimed that Max Verstappen and his father Jos were on the phone to Mercedes chief Toto Wolff on a regular basis (for obvious reasons) but the Red Bull consultant is adamant that the young Dutchman is committed to the team.

Time has shown that patience is not a Verstappen virtue and in the aftermath of the reality check that, at the moment, Honda is no match for Mercedes or Ferrari it is no surprise that he and his minders are looking for alternatives.

After the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, the Dutchman did not mince his words when he told reporters that he did not have the power at his disposal to challenge for victory or even a podium for that matter.

But Marko is unconcerned, “Max knows what the development programs are, how things are going and what’s coming, so no, I am not worried.”

“It is up to us to give Max the right package. He already has more than twice the number of points he had after three races last year. Max makes no mistakes and gets the most out of what we have.”

Apart from an engine that’s not quite there, the team has also produced a tricky chassis in the RB15 which has not helped their cause.

According to Marko, “There will be a major update for the car in Barcelona.”

Big Question: Is Max heading to Mercedes?
