Charles Leclerc has been co-opted by Ferrari to drive in the simulator at Maranello as the team look to close the gap to Mercedes (and Red Bull?) ahead of this Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

The young Ferrari driver is having a baptism of fire with the sport’s most famous team as he has been used to help teammate Sebastian Vettel, even sacrificed at times while the pressure is telling as mistakes are frequent from the highly rated 21-year-old.

In a preview, like Vettel’s scant of much info, Leclerc stated the obvious, “The Canadian Grand Prix should be an opportunity to try and bring home a good result. We must do everything well to prepare the car right down to the last detail so that we can get the most out of it.”

“Last week, I was in the simulator in Maranello to work on settings and on improving the car and myself for this round. I find this track very interesting because it includes various types of corners and a long straight where it should be possible to overtake.”

“Last year, I managed to finish in the points and so this year, the aim is to do better.”

“I really like the city of Montreal itself and its people and the fact they speak French makes me feel a bit more at home. I really hope we can have a successful weekend,” concluded Leclerc.

Ferrari are expected to be closer to Mercedes if not ahead of them at the power-happy Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Another defeat to the Silver Arrows – which would be seven out of seven so far this season – will probably sink their title hopes if they are not gone already.
